Pinecar - Pinewood Derby Car Kits & Accessories
The Pinewood Derby is a racing event started by the Boy Scouts of America for its Cub Scout members. Scouts and parents carve and custom-build their cars from wood, which is usually from kits containing a block of pine, along with plastic wheels and metal axles. This event became so popular with Scouts that other organizations have developed similar events, and a small but growing industry has developed to provide tracks, timers, scales and other Pinewood Derby racing products.The track typically resembles a downward sloping drag strip with two to six lanes. The cars are powered by gravity. A race is run in heats, with each car given the chance to run on each lane to eliminate any speed advantages from specific lanes.
Scouts refer to this event as the Pinewood Derby, but other names are sometimes used by other organizations.
